MRB was founded in 1992 as a media research company designed to assist leading business and trade publications in story development. MRB worked with media outlets at McGraw Hill, Penton, Ziff Davis, CMP and others to plan the upcoming segments of various publications. We would join editorial meetings to discuss topics and assignments. MRB would research topics of the stories planned and prepare research packages that were presented to the assigned writers. Our research provided these writers with the information needed to craft their story (sources, analyst information, compiled research/data, story ideas, previous coverage, and information resources). It would also help publications develop coverage that was different than competing publications.

Since we were part of the editorial process for these publications, companies would often pitch their story ideas to us, trying to become part of the news coverage we were involved in creating. Eventually, we began working for these companies, helping them develop compelling story ideas that would result in coverage of their business. This side of our business became more of a focus as publishing houses in the early 90's flourished (as a result of increased ad revenues during the Internet spending boom) and subsequently brought research in-house. MRB still provides these services to the media upon request and continues using these story packaging techniques to generate the kind of coverage you can not find elsewhere.
